How we work - Everything at Heaps is stored within your own sealed unit measuring; 8 ft long x 7 ft high x 5 ft wide (250 cubic feet or 35 square foot).
Storage charges - Are calculated daily, charged on a weekly basis and invoiced monthly in advance.
What can I store ? Everything from Boxes, furniture, sofas, kitchen appliances, beds, garage contents, garden equipment and more... Plants - we are able to provide care and protection for your plants, however this service is only provided as a temporary solution. We are unable to take care of any plants on a long-term basis. Piano's - We can store and move both upright and grand piano's using piano bogies and grand piano slippers. Antiques - grandfather clocks and a variety of items of unusual size and weights.
What Can NOT be stored ? Food or perishable goods; combustible or flammable materials or liquids such as gas, paint, petrol, oil, batteries or cleaning solvents; illegal firearms and weapons; explosives & ammunition; chemicals, radioactive materials, biological agents; Toxic waste, asbestos or other materials of a potentially dangerous nature; Any item which emits fumes, smell or odour; any illegal substances, illegal items or goods illegally obtained; any living creatures; compressed gasses. Jewellery and securities should not be placed in storage, as they are not covered by our insurance policy. Please see our Terms and Conditions.
What sort of boxes should I use for storage ? Use good quality sturdy storage boxes ( see our box shop for details ) They should be filled to capacity as partially full boxes may tip or collapse. Pack heavy items into small boxes so they are easier to lift.
Will you need to know whats in the boxes for storage ? Yes, please remember to label or number boxes so its easier to find you things later. Write a comprehensive list of you stored items.
What about storing breakables such as china and glass ? All fragile items should be protected. Wrap dishes and glasses in tissue paper, white news or bubble wrap before storing.
What about garden equipment ? All garden equipment should be clean before placing into storage. Any fuel or flammable liquids must be emptied as we do not allow any liquids into store (please see what cannot be stored for more details or contact us on 01422 835524).
Wooden table or furniture legs - We advise customers to wrap table legs with bubble wrap before storing them for extra protection.
Wardrobes and hanging garments - Warbrobe boxes allow you to simply transfer all the contents direct from one rail to another, allowing you to store everything as it is if necessary.
Self storage - how to pack your unit - Place heavy items into the unit first to provide a good stacking base. Try to plan you storage space, leave items you may need at the front. To maximise space stack simliar boxes together and do not place heavy items on sofas or mattresses. Stack chairs seat to seat with a blanket between them ( free blankets are available on site).
Should I use covers for soft furnishings or mattresses ? Always place a protective cover over your soft furnishings ( we provide free use of blankets on site ) but we reccomend that you dont use plastic mattresss covers as this can cause any moisture held in the item to surface and sweat causing damage.
Storing kitchen appliances - Defrost and drain freezers/washers prior to placing them in store. Leave refrigerator or freezer doors open for ventilation.
Storing paintings and mirrors - Wrap pictures and mirrors in bubble wrap and stack them on their end, mark them fragile.
